What is hester prynne sin
Her determination and lonely stand is repeated again when she confronts Governor Bellingham over the issue of Pearl's guardianship. When the governor determines to take Pearl away from her, Hester says, "God gave me the child!
He gave her in requital of all things else, which he had taken from me. Ye shall not take her! I will die first! I will not give her up!
Hester's strength is evident in her dealings with both her husband and her lover. Hester defies Chillingworth when he demands to know the name of her lover. In Chapter 4, when he interviews her in the jail, she firmly says, "Ask me not! That thou shalt never know! The minister calls on her to give him strength to overcome his indecisiveness twice in the forest and again as he faces his confession on Election Day. What is the source of this strength? As she walks out on the scaffold at the beginning of the novel, Hester determines that she must "sustain and carry" her burden forward "by the ordinary resources of her nature, or sink with it.
She could no longer borrow from the future to help her through the present. Yet she continues to lack adult companionship throughout her life. She has nothing but her strength of spirit to sustain her.
This inner calm is recognized in the changing attitude of the community when they acknowledge that the A is for "Able," "so strong was Hester Prynne, with a woman's strength.
In the Scarlet Letter, Hester is portrayed as a rose in the thorns because she tries to keep the Puritan lifestyle and persistently prays for her enemies. Hawthorne continues to applaud Hester for her lifestyle she is trying to live eventhough it was the Puritans that made her go through a life of embarresment and suffering.
In Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" the story is a profusion of symbols, hidden lies, and sin. The protagonist is Hester Prynne, a beautiful young woman who is oppressed for her infidelity and has to wear a crimson letter 'A'. This letter not only represents she is an adulterer, but is a constant reminder of her diminishing reputation and the loss of acceptance in the puritan community. Hester gets pregnant and as result a beautiful baby named Pearl is born.
The illegitimate daughter also has a father. This is when Menchu realizes that there is a lot of discrimination going on. Childless and merciless, Madame Defarge is the antithesis of Lucie Manette. Both women possess the ability to inspire others, but while Lucie creates and nurtures life, Madame Defarge destroys it.
Because her entire family perished when she was a young girl, Madame Defarge wants revenge, not merely on the family that caused the evil but on the entire class from which it came. Her knitting represents both her patience and her urge to retaliate, because she knits the names of her intended victims.
But as time passes, the clear line of a sin and respect begin to blur. No one enjoys being called out for a wrongdoing or urged to confess a mistake. Hester and Pearl are living in a small cottage outside of the town. She helps out the poor a lot during the years after her humiliation. When Dimmsdale finds out that Chillingworth knows he fathered Pearl, Hester, Pearl, and Dimmsdale plan to run away together.
At the end of the novel Arthur Dimmsdale can't take it anymore and decides to free himself from this guilt and at daytime he, Hester, and Pearl stand on the scaffold and in front of the crowd, Dimmsdale confesses his sin. When the minister says "Thy power is not what it was! With God's help, I shall escape thee now! He also shows everyone the letter A on his chest. He then falls down and dies as a guilt free man. Chillingworth dies a year later and Hester and Pearl leave Boston. Hester comes back many years later by her self.
Pearl is married and living with her husband. Hester never removes her scarlet letter because she has overcome it and doesn't see it as a sin anymore. When she dies, she and Dimmsdale are buried in the same tombstone that has the scarlet letter A on it. The characters help develop the theme by there actions. Hester Prynne is the main character of the story and she is the story's protagonist. She is young, beautiful, and a proud woman. She wears a scarlet letter A on her gown as a symbol of the sin she has committed which is adultery.
She has decorated the letter with gold threads around it showing us that she is not going to let this incident bring her down. Hester does suffer emotionally and cries often in her cottage. His guilt was mentally torturing him and drove him to despair. The uncontrollable helpless feeling of despair brought Dimmesdale immense suffering to the point where he almost lost his mind. Dimmesdale, unlike Hester, had an undying guilt that would forever torture him until his death.
How does Dimmesdale die? When Hester later dies, she is buried next to Dimmesdale. The one place that Dimmesdale is safe from Chillingworth is. I know not! In the end, Chillingworth is morally degraded by his monomaniacal pursuit of revenge. Only Hester can face the future bravely, as she prepares to begin a new life with her daughter, Pearl, in Europe.
He declares that God has led him there. The minister and Hester then exchange words. This is the third scene on the scaffold. Dimmesdale has gone from denial to secret confession to public confession.
